Ahh all star week. Time to give NBA players a bit of a rest, loosen up and half some fun before the 2nd half of the season starts. It was all offense in this years NBA All Star game as the Western Conference all stars beat the Eastern Conference all stars 192-182 in New Orleans. Only fitting that a New Orleans Pelicans player takes home the MVP. Pelicans forward Anthony Davis had an excellent game (albeit there was no defense) dropping a whooping 52 points to go with 10 boards and 2 steals. Oklahoma City Thunder super star (and for some reason, back up) guard Russell Westbrook nearly took home the award but finished with 41 points, 5 reb, 7 ast and a steal. Former Thunder teammate and now Golden State Warrior forward Kevin Durant had a triple double while also throwing up a nice lob to his former teammate in the first quarter. Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol (10 pts, 10 reb, 8 ast, stl, blk) and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (21 pts, 4 reb, 6 ast, stl) also had nice games for the West. As for the East, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (say that 5 times fast) contributed nicely (30 pts, 6 reb, ast, 3 stl, blk). Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving (22 pts, 14 ast, 7 reb, 3 stl) and Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas (20 pts, reb, 3 ast) also had good games for the East. Ultimately, this game in the grand scheme of things is more for entertainment. Great for the players, the NBA and the fans. I enjoyed but understand why some fans may not like how loose the game is in terms of little defense played. Considering it’s mainly for show and the players don’t want to get hurt, I see the lack of defense. Although it would be nice to see a bit more effort (the steals were nice though), this is not game 5 of the playoffs it’s just an all star game. Good game and congrats to AD for winning that MVP!
