Talk about a huge upset! The Philadelphia Eagles stunned the streaking New York Giants at home in a 24-19 victory. Despite getting torched by all pro receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (11 receptions, 150 yards), the defense was able to come in clutch picking off Eli Manning 3 times and returning one 34 yards to the house. The defense did its job in containing the potent giants offense as they were only abe to come away with a single touchdown (a Manning pass to up and coming rookie Sterling Shepherd) but other then that, forced 4 field goals by kicker Robbie Gould. Running back Darren Sproles opened up the scoring with a 25 yard touchdown, followed by Malcolm Jenkins interception returned for a touchdown. Eagles defensive back Terrence Brooks was also able to pick off Manning. As for the Giants, this loss doesn’t kill them as they have a very favourable shot at making the playoffs but will need things to fall into place and win out in order to make it to the post season. While OBJ and Victor Cruz (8 receptions, 84 yards) had big days, Manning can’t afford to throw 63 times in the playoffs and expect to win. Between running backs Paul Perkins and Rashad Jennings, the two combined for 24 carries for 112 yards, numbers that are not terrible and so the Giants should not have abandoned the running game as the game went on. Had they stuck with a more balanced approach, perhaps they could have won this game. Nevertheless, they have a chance to punch their ticket to the playoffs should they beat a desperate Washington Redskins team eager to sneak their way into the playoffs. As for the Eagles, they look to welcome the 13-2 red hot Dallas Cowboys. Don’t expect to see sensational rookie quarterback Dak Prescott or running back Ezekiel Elliot however as the Cowboys were able to clinch the first round bye with tonights win over Detroit. There may be a Tony Romo sighting but the Eagles are looking to spoil that and finish the season on a high note.
